RESIDENTIAL – DUPLEX – RENOVATION – PASSIVE HOUSE – COMING SOON

This project is the story of two siblings wanting to live under the same roof and share the house of their grandmother. The existing structure is a 2 level without basement single family house with assigned character merit. This house is going to be renovated and cut in half so each family can have its own space.

Because it is a retrofit and this project is going to be Passive House certified, we were allowed to match the existing FSR and we also had allowances for passive house performing assemblies such as thicker exterior walls.

For this project we wanted to modernize the heritage house: we approached the initial design by giving the structure a simple forme with respect to the neighbourhood, only stripping down the detailing to a more contemporary but transitional style.
